Spanning more than a century of art making, Hello Again introduces the newly integrated holdings of UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art, showcasing the institution’s deep strengths in California art history, with a particular focus on the 1960s and 1970s. Abandoning a rigid chronology in favor of thematic fluidity, the featured works highlight the many ways California’s artists have bypassed literal documentation to treat their physical environments as mirrors for spiritual, internal, and social realities. Cross-generational dialogues collapse time, revealing how regional landscapes, domestic spaces, and urban culture remain fertile territory for material and conceptual experimentation.
In its eclectic expanse, Hello Again reveals how California artists have returned to the region’s diverse topography and everyday environments as fuel for internal expression, social commentary, and material innovation, creating a complex portrait of place.
